Man, it is hot out today! Earlier this week- sixty degrees. Today- ninety. Because, sure why not here the great state of Virginia. At least there is a breeze blowing today, so it’s not terrible. A good day to open up a couple of windows and let some air in!
I’m kinda bummed this week that my Caps got eliminated in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Of course, my Flyers didn’t even get to the playoffs, so yeah, there’s that. I guess it shouldn’t have been too surprising to anyone who’s followed Washington over the last few years (or really ever, ha!) and especially after the atrocious start they had at the beginning of the (shortened) season. But still, there’s always that eternal optimism that says, “This is our year!” Oh well. Maybe 2014.
So to drown my sorrows and pour one out for the team, let’s move on the wine! This week’s selection is local Virginia wine from Sans Soucy Vineyards. I haven’t actually been out to the vineyard, but these guys often have booths at local wine tasting events and that’s how I found out about them. This particular bottle is one I sampled at the Smith Mountain Lake Wine Festival last fall. I liked it so much, I decided that I definitely needed to take a bottle home with me! It’s a tasty 2009 Petit Verdot, which unfortunately, I lost the pricing for. Sorry!
Anyway, my notes:

- smooth, fruit finish
- heavy cinnamon notes
- nice VA dry selection
From the experts: “Dark, full-bodied red Aged in French oak barrels for 18 months. The wine is gently acidic with soft and balanced tannins. Tones of Vanillin, dark chocolate, black cherry, cassis and even a hint of tobacco. The nose is lightly vanillin and fruity but also suggests aromatic hints of sandalwood and cedar.” — based on the 2008 vintage, from our friends at VirginiaWine.org
