I’ve been on a Shiraz kick lately, so here’s another enjoyable bottle! This is 2009 McWilliams Shiraz. Another fine Australian effort. The hubs and I first tried the McWilliams wines at a restaurant in Old Town Alexandria, and it was love at first drop. I always jump on the chance to grab a bottle or two of these whenever I see them. Notice as well, that this bottle was extra special since it was on clearance at Target. As if we needed any more reason to love Target getting a $10 bottle of wine for $8.50 was the cherry on my sundae that day. However, next week’s WW selection will beat even those savings, by a lot!
Anyhoo, my notes:
- color: dark plum
- scent: deep fruity, little spice
- lots of spice notes
- earthy flavors
The professionals: “Color: Crimson red with purple hues. Aromas: Dark black fruit aromas of plum combine with spice and vanillian oak. Flavors: The supple yet generous palate is dominated by rich, plum and raspberry fruit flavors with hints of spice and vanilla. The wine is soft and well balanced with a lingering, fruit focused finish. Cellaring potential: Enjoy at the time of release for its fresh fruit flavors. Serving Temperature: Room temperature (18 °C).” From the winemakers themselves.
