Wine Wednesday!

wine wednesday

yay for more bordeaux!

This week’s selection is a lovely French wine from the Bordeaux region.  It is a $30 2006 Grand Vin from Chateau Franc-Cardinal.  A delicious red wine from the Cotes de Francs region of Bordeaux, this bottle was thoroughly enjoyed!

My notes:

  • color- dark plum
  • scent- currant, oak
  • taste- smooth, deep flavor
  • oak, vanilla
  • earthy
  • very light texture
  • easily drinkable

And the masters? *taken from the Franc-Cardinal homepage as reviews of newer vintages are harder to find*

“Following are some tasting notes of available vintages, from Master Oenologist Paul Maugein of Puisseguin-St. Emilion:

2000 Vintage: A deep purple colour with violet reflections, reminding one of “bigareau” cherries. The nose is a complex of wood and fruit recalling cherries and grilled almonds. In the mouth the attack is at once supple and round, the evolution is warm and inviting, the tannins present are essentially of licorice and plums. The finish is again licorice and fruit , leaving an impression of candied cherries, round and mouth-watering. A blend of discrete wood and ripe fruits with again a note of grilled almonds.

2001 Vintage: Deep garnet colour, with violet hints recalling red currants, cassis and black cherries. On the nose the fruit dominates on a backbone of heart of oak and grilled hazelnuts, indicating the perfect maturity of the harvest. In the mouth the attack is warm and round, becoming supple and mouth-watering, the tannins ripe and persistent on a finish of hazelnut and fruit.”
