Valentine’s Day- Yes, it’s pure fluff. No, it would never win any awards.  But it is cute as hell and pretty funny.  It’s one of THOSE movies that has an abnormally large amount of *big name* celebrities (think Julia Roberts, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Garner, etc).  The movie itself is all about one day (ahem, guess which day…) in the lives of these semi-connected souls.  And if you’re in the mood for some fun, just let-go and smile movie watching, then this is a great way to spend a couple of hours.  It’s also a cute date movie- even the husband thought it was worth seeing.

Invictus- You know it.  It’s that movie with Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela and Matt Damon as a rugby player recently post-apartheid South Africa.  Honestly, I was completely bored for most of the movie.  I didn’t think the characters were well developed nor was the plot line shown in a clear continuum.  As much as I love both actors, I couldn’t wait for the film to be over.

It’s Complicated-  A Meryl Streep/Alec Baldwin comedy about older divorcees … reuniting *ahem*.  When it came out in theaters, it was welcomed to some pretty horrific reviews, but I’m not sure why.  It turned out to be really funny and a very entertaining movie.  There are several laugh out loud moments, and I, for one, welcome the presence of Steve Martin in pretty much any film.

Young Victoria-  A period piece starring Emily Blunt about Queen Victoria’s coming of age and ascendancy to the throne of England.  It’s an interesting look at a monarch who is best remembered for the mournful, dower year of her later life.  I’m a sucker for historical films (who can resist castles and costumes????) and this movie didn’t disappoint.  While most guys (and non-historically minded females) probably would be bored to tears, if you enjoy a British history, turbulent love stories, or stories of strong-willed young women, you will enjoy YV.
